The hill and valley shaped, lush green Abeokuta Golf Club in Ogun State will be a beehive of golfing activities come July 7 and 8, 2023 for the inaugural kitty of the new Lady Captain Alaba Adetunji and her team.
It is a dual event as the former Lady Captain, Afolashade Adedoyin Opawunmi, who has been at the helm of affairs in the last two years will formally sign out in a grand style.
Hence, tagged “Ladies Sign In & Out Golf Kitty,” Adetunji though, a prolific lady golfer who has been winning laurels in recent times told SOKOnnect on Monday in an exclusive chat that ‘she would ensure that the progress in Abeokuta Ladies Section is sustained.”
According to the 2022 Ikeja Ladies champion: “I want to first commend the ladies for giving me the opportunity to serve; I’ll do my best to ensure that everyone is carried along, so that the Abeokuta Ladies Section will continue to progress; also to make women see the benefits in playing golf; we’ll share ideas and network on the best ways to develop the game further.”
Adetunji eulogised the efforts of the men of Abeokuta Golf Club under the leadership of Bashorun Ladi Adegbite in ensuring that the Ladies Section does not lag behind saying, “The men are our pillars; thank you Mr Captain for always being there.”

With over 150 golfers expected to participate in the event, a tentative date of December has also been fixed for the Abeokuta Ladies Open which the Lady Captain said will be launched during the inaugural kitty.
Meanwhile, opinion pool so far favours Adetunji, a Nigerian Police officer to do well while her tenure lasts given her experience in golfing activities even as she has set up a “crack team” to make her tenure as the Ladies Captain successful.
The team members include Ronke Folami, Vice Captain; Halima Agbeniyi, Secretary and Bamidele Ifesanya, Competition Secretary; others are Kemi Afolabi, Treasurer and Nike Jimoh, Public Relations Officer (PRO).
