Judith Obomanu-Assisi, a golf coach has urged parents to introduce their children to golf game at early age alongside their educational pursuits as the 2021 Children Golf Holiday Training ends today (Friday) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Commenting on the programme for children, age four to 17 tagged, “Catching Them Young In Sports” she said, “I want to use this opportunity to tell parents it’s important to introduce their children early to the game of golf, because it is a game of life,”

Obomanu-Assisi made the statement in a chat with SOKOnnect build up to the grand finale holding at the SB Abubakar Golf Club, Air Force Base, Port Harcourt.

The annual programme organised by Fair Cottage Empowerment Initiative in partnership the SBA Golf Club Air Force Base Port Harcourt started since August 2021 with about 20 children.

Obomanu-Assisi who doubles as the Coordinator however, was elated to affirmed that the programme was successful as much have been learnt by the children who would be awarded certificates and trophies.

On the low participation she said, “Children were not many because Schools in Rivers State are still in session. I may need to run this programme more often in clusters of three to five children as they come along until the school system is stable.”

She enthused that though, the programme is for all sports, this year is only golf and “some schools have already introduced golf lessons into their curriculum which I and Prof F. Danjima is handling,”

Obomanu-Assisi,a Lady Professional was however quick to mention that “family membership will allow you and your children enjoy the facilities of the Club,” just as training is not free, hence it is expedient to have sponsors take advantage of the programme.

“I do not train for free, but because Fair Cottage in is an NGO, we have been helping and tranning children in different sports who can’t afford to train or get the kitts. That is why we need supports and sponsorships. We had only one sponsor this time and only 4 Children paid the 10,000 for the program,” she concluded.
