The 2023 Golfsixses over the weekend came to a glowing end at the Ikeja Golf Club Lagos as Dynamite crushed the Crushers to emerge the latest champions in the novel tournament.

The event designed for the elderlies and retirees had 80 participants; it teed off from Friday September 29 to Saturday September 30, producing the quartet of Jimoh Ogundare, Evelyn Oyome, Chris Obije and Ojerinde T of Team Dynamite as the winners.

Third in series of the tournament, the 2023 Lagos edition witnessed the participation of other teams as well as players from different parts of the South Western Zone as Adeco Delight which came third and Dolphin which came fourth.

First time appearance among the players include MI Okoro, past Captain of ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos; Innocent C Ike, former MD of Polaris Bank and Otumba Abimbola Davis who was to participate with a team from Ibadan Golf Club among others.

Invariably, Golfsixes major partners as Elder Olowo, Alhaji Awa Ibraheem, Zed Jituboh and Hon Lola Akande the only female were humbly present; incidentally Hon Lola presented an “All Ladies’ team in the 2023 edition.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Olusina Akinyemi, the Captain of Ikeja Golf Club applauded the efforts of the organisers headed by Emy Ekong for a job well done.

According to the Captain, “I’ve seen events, but any event organised under the watch of Emy is always with a difference; well done Emy and keep it up,” just as he pledged the club will make its facilities available to Golfsixses anytime they needed it.

Earlier in the tournament, Chief (Mrs) Bintu Fatima Tinubu, the Iyalode of Lagos had commended the organisers for creating a tournament in recognition of the elderlies and retirees, while urging them to maintain the tempo.

Recall that Golfsixses which was launched in 2021 rotates between Abuja for the north and Lagos for the south of Nigeria, even as pressure continues to mount for extension of the tournament to debut in other clubs of the country.
