It depends on whether we will feel comfortable during these few hours waiting at the airport and later on board the plane.

However, according to an experienced flight attendant, your favourite T-shirt or fashionable short-sleeved blouse are not the best choice for a flight.

Andrea Fischbach, a long-time flight attendant for American Airlines, recently shared her travel attire tips with internet users. She also talked about the mistakes that passengers she served made.

According to her, the most common ones include wearing tight clothes, high heels and excessive jewellery and accessories. While they may look attractive, they are usually inconvenient and can cause people to be stopped at security.

In an interview with LADbible TV, Fischbach stressed that while comfort should be a key element of travel attire, simple solutions aren’t always the best. This can have unforeseen consequences – especially in an emergency.

Long sleeves, loose clothes – this is how you can travel comfortably and safely

“I grew up travelling, and one of the rules my mom taught me was to always have my body covered,” Andrea explained. In an emergency, like being evacuated from a plane down an inflatable slide, more skin is protected by a layer of fabric.

For this reason, when Andrea travels privately, she chooses long sleeves and trousers. Sure, this may seem like over-caution, but clothes like these can really make a difference in an emergency situation. She also avoids items and clothes with fringes or made of flammable materials, e.g. polyester, because they may pose a fire hazard or melt on the body.

The flight attendant also advises that instead of wearing tight clothes for the flight, pack them in your suitcase. Swelling during travel is common, and tight clothes can further restrict blood flow, increasing the risk of thrombosis.

“If you are tall, travel a lot or take long flights, this is extremely important,” Andrea reminded. “It’s very important to be able to move around in the chair a little bit — which is very difficult, I know — and keep the blood flowing,” she added.

All this shows that fashionable travelling requires not only a sense of style, but also a well-thought-out strategy. So keep these tips in mind when packing for your next trip!
