Former Jomo Cosmos and Bafana Bafana midfielder Lebogang Morula has died at 57.
He was shot and killed around his family home at Moumong in Mmakau, North West, on Wednesday, 7 August. The incident happened at about 7pm.
Talking to the publication, Lebogang’s mother Elizabeth Morula (81), said her son was shot at the gate of their home while on his way to the shops.
“My son told me that the electricity is too low and wants to purchase it. When he was at the gate, about to leave, I heard gunshots. My son was shot and killed by thugs.
“We’re still traumatized and don’t know why they wanted him dead,” she said.
Elizabeth said that the family is still shocked and needs space to come to terms with his death.
Lebogang started his career at Cosmos and in 1995, he moved to the Colombian club, Once Caldas.
He was also part of the Bafana team that represented South Africa at the France 1998 World Cup.
