The refusal of Federal Government (FG) to meet the agreement reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may have taken a whole new dimension as the Union has raised the alarm over the exodus of its members for greener pastures abroad.
Professor Emmanuel Osodekehe, the national president of the union disclosed this on Thursday while fielding questions from journalists at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The union president expressed worries that the Federal Government decided to seize salaries of the striking lecturers because they embarked on strike, noting it is against global best practices.
He said, “We don’t have a certain statistic but a large number of our members have moved out of the country not because they hate this country but because of the way they are being treated.
“There’s no country in the world where their academics will go on strike and you think the best weapon is to seize their salary”.
Recalled that ASUU on February 14 shut down public universities over the inability of the Federal Government to implement previous agreements the both parties entered into.
