The latest season of Adulting, the hit Showmax series, has stirred intense reactions, with fans grappling to separate fiction from reality after a shocking finale left audiences reeling.
The emotional climax came when a fan-favourite character, Tsiki Tsiki—portrayed by Nhlanhla Kunene—was fatally stabbed by his on-screen girlfriend, played by actress Samkelo Ndlovu. The heartbreaking moment followed a heated altercation between the couple and left viewers in shock and mourning.
Fans, particularly women who adored Tsiki Tsiki’s effortlessly cool gangster persona, were devastated by the character’s sudden and violent exit. But for some, grief turned into misplaced anger—directed not at the storyline, but at the actress behind the fictional act.
Samkelo Ndlovu Attacked
Samkelo Ndlovu became the target of a wave of online abuse, including threats and confrontations in public. The backlash escalated to the point where she deactivated her Instagram account for her safety and peace of mind.
Before stepping away from social media, she issued an emotional statement addressing the harassment:
“I’ll be deactivating my social media for some time. I’m just a girl. To my true fans, I love you so much, and I will see you soon on screen. I appreciate you for sticking with me all these years and loving my work.”
She also directly addressed the hostility she faced:
“To the rest of you—I hope you feel better after being disrespectful and ugly to me online. I hope your direct threats made the blow of a fictional character’s death on TV feel much better.”
Samkelo Ndlovu went on to reveal that some fans had even confronted her in person:
“To those who said disrespectful, ugly things to me in public—I hope you slept better that night.”
When contacted, Samkelo declined to comment further, saying only: “No, thank you. I will address it if I feel like I should when the time is right.”
