
Chief Tonobok Okowa, President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has hailed Imaobong Nse Uko’s gold victory in the female 400m final at the ongoing World Athletics Under-20 Junior Championship taking place in Kenya.
Chief Okowa who spoke to newsmen said that the gold medal had added an impetus to the aspirations of Team Nigeria at the Championship in Kenya.
The AFN President assured that the Team will win more medals at the Championship stressing that the AFN will continue to work towards revamping the sport in Nigeria.
He averred that the AFN would not relent in taking Nigeria to it’s pride of place in international events.
He also called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the AFN as they remained on course towards enhancing the development of athletics in Nigeria.
He also revealed that his tenure as AFN President would be used to discover, groom, prime and showcase the talents that abound in Nigeria.
He called on stakeholders, public and private sector to partner with the AFN towards taking Nigeria to the summit of World Athletics.
He enjoined all to work towards achieving this aspirations stressing that the nation had the talents that can rule World Athletics even as he assured that the AFN had already put programmes in place to transform the sport in Nigeria.
Chief Okowa also called on the Athletes to see the triumph of Imaobong Nse Uko as a fillip to winning more medals at the Championship.
Nigeria has now won two gold and one bronze medals so far at Championship.
