Amina Wilfred of IBB Golf Club, Abuja has emerged the first champion of the First Abakaliki Ladies Open Golf Championship with a gross of 158 over two days.
In Day-1 the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who is more of a serial winner in Ladies golf tournaments in the country, shot 76 and 82 in Day-2 to beat her closest rivals for the trophy.
However, Love Okoho of Port Harcourt Golf Club was second on 169 gross; in Day-1, she shot 82 and Day-2, she shot 87; Osinachi E. of Arsenal Club, Owerri was third with a gross of 171; 88 in Day-1 and 83 in Day-2.
Blessing Obaje of Otukpo Golf Club in Benue State was fourth in the trophy class; she grossed 172 over two days, playing 84, 88 in Day-1 and Day-2 respectively.
Wilfred in an interview after the victory told the press, she came for the tournament with a winning mentality, just as she commended the organisers of the event for the success.
“In very happy to become the first champion of the first ever Abakaliki Ladies Open Golf Championship; I was wey prepared ahead of the tournament because I wajmnt to break the record be the first to win in Abakaliki.
“I however, want to commend the AGC members, the Ladies Captain, Enene Fonne, to be specific for her dogged leadership qualities and also the committee members for the supports; it was a peaceful and interesting tournament and we give God the glory,” she said.
Fonne, the Lady Captain in her response however, applauded the winners, Wilfred, for her efforts saying, “Anima your Victory is victory for lady golfets; I appreciate your efforts for participating in the first Abakaliki Ladies Open Golf Championship.”
Fonne however, congratulated all the participants who came from far and near for the tournament’s success wishing them journey mercy to their destinations.
