The 2021 edition of the annual Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Championship will hold from October 21-23 at the Ikeja Golf Club Lagos as confirmed by the organisers.
The age legibility according to the sponsor would be 6-16 and not 6-17 as earlier speculated, just as falsification of age will be vehemently resisted.
Recalled that the championship which was last organised in 2019 at same Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos was won by Godwin Okoko of Otukpo Golf Academy, Benue State.
The championship however, was cancelled in 2020 following the outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic which brought the world on its knees.
In this regard, the organisers have maintained that all Covid-19 protocols would be fully adhered to for safety reasons in this edition.
“Please, note tthat all covid 19 protocols will be strictly adhered to and everything will be put in place to ensure the health and safety of the children; parents and officials; these are of paramount importance to the sponsor, Alhaji Awa Ibraheem,” Emy Ekong, coordinator and former Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) Youth and Women Development Director said.
The annual Awa Junior Championship has been a meeting point for prospective infants and teenage golfers in the likes of Georgia Oboh of Ikoyi Club and Manchester Academy, UK; Chiemere Isife, Enugu and Port Harcourt Club who are now professionals; John Alex of Otukpo Academy and National Sports Festival (NSF) gold medalist, among others.
