Bahumi Mhlongo opens up about her battle with lymphedema! Media personality and motivational speaker Bahumi Mhlongo recently shared a deeply personal revelation about her ongoing health battle. Taking to social media, she disclosed that she has been living with Lymphoedema, a chronic condition that causes swelling in the arms or legs due to damage or blockage in the lymphatic system.

Her emotional message resonated with many, as she reflected on her journey, the lessons she has learned, and the faith that has sustained her through the years.

What is Lymphoedema?

Lymphoedema is a long-term medical condition often caused by lymph node damage or removal, commonly due to cancer treatment, infections, or genetic factors. It leads to persistent swelling, usually in the limbs, and can be accompanied by pain, discomfort, and mobility issues.

For over a decade, Bahumi has battled this condition silently, but she recently decided to speak openly about her struggles and triumphs.

Breaking the Silence on Pain

In her heartfelt post, Bahumi admitted that she kept her diagnosis private for years, fearing that sharing her pain would make her a burden to others.

“I was diagnosed with Lymphoedema over a decade ago, but for a long time, I stayed quiet about it. I developed a habit of pretending I was fine—even when I wasn’t—to avoid burdening others. But ignoring pain, whether physical or emotional, isn’t strength. If God calls attention to your well-being, don’t ignore it. Seek help.”

Her bravery in opening up has sparked conversations about the importance of self-care, seeking help, and breaking societal expectations of suffering in silence.

Leaning on God’s Grace

Living with a chronic illness has not been easy, and Bahumi revealed that she has struggled with frustration, emotional exhaustion, and pressure to remain positive despite her condition.

“I’ve struggled with pain, frustration, and the pressure to ‘stay positive.’ I’ve asked God, ‘Why me?’ But through it all, I’ve learned that His grace is enough. He is my healer, and my faith is in Him—His time, His way, His love.”

Her faith has been her pillar of strength, helping her navigate the uncertainties of her health battle.

Choosing Gratitude Amidst Struggles

Despite the challenges that come with Lymphoedema, Bahumi chooses to focus on gratitude rather than despair.

“Despite the struggles, I choose gratitude—for the rain, for shelter, for my legs, my sight, my life. We all face battles, but they should bring us to a place of humility. Be grateful for what you have, and trust God’s grace for what you don’t.”

Her message serves as a powerful reminder that even in the midst of difficulties, we should appreciate the blessings in our lives.

Raising Awareness and Inspiring Others

By sharing her personal story, Bahumi has brought awareness to a condition that is often misunderstood or overlooked. Many of her followers have praised her for her transparency and courage, with some sharing their own experiences with chronic illness and self-acceptance.

Her openness is not only empowering but also helps others who may be silently battling similar struggles.

Support from Fans and Fellow Celebrities

Following her post, fans, friends, and fellow celebrities flooded her social media with messages of encouragement and support.

  • @TumiM: “Bahumi, your strength is inspiring! Thank you for reminding us that we don’t have to suffer in silence.”
  • @LeboD: “I have Lymphoedema too, and I’ve always been ashamed of it. Your story gives me hope.”
  • @RealTalkSA: “So much respect for Bahumi for speaking her truth and showing others they’re not alone.”
