Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the chairman of Zamfara State Football Association has emerged as the new President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at the end of the election which held in Benin City Edo State capital on Friday September 30, 2022.
Gusau’s victory was achieved with the second ballot required having not scored 50 percent plus one vote in the first ballot.
However, he defeated Pastor Peterside Idah by 39 votes to one in the second ballot with one ballot declared invalid.
Gusau who was a member of the outgoing executive scored 21 votes in the first ballot to be ahead of six other contestants, including two former Vice Presidents, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, the first VP and Mallam Shehu Dikko, the second VP, who is also CEO of the League Management Company.
Akinwunmi scored 12 votes, while Dikko had six.
When a second ballot was called, Akinwunmi, Dikko, Alhaji Abba Abdullahi Yola all withdrew from the race, while Idah, who had one vote, decided to go all the way.
Gusau was elected at the NFF Congress in Benin City on Friday exactly eight years after the outgoing president, Amaju Pinnick was voted in in Warri.
It would be recalled that Pinnick left the NFF with the record of being the longest serving President, either cumulatively or in one stretch since the football body was formed August 21, 1933.
