
Emeka Obasi,a former Commissioner for Information in Abia State and publisher of Hallmark on Wednesday was said to have died after a protracted ailment, it was gathered.
According to a statement released by the deceased’s family, Obasi died on Tuesday at an undisclosed hospital in Lagos.
The publisher had been battling a medical condition over the past few years.
“The family of Prince Emeka Obasi announces the passing unto glory of Prince Emeka Obasi, Ezenwata, Ibeku Kingdom,” the statement reads.
“Prince Emeka, the Publisher of Hallmark Newspapers passed on, Tuesday March 15, 2022 at a Lagos hospital.
“He is survived by wife, Dr (Mrs) Betty Obasi and Children – Emeka (jnr), Onyedikachi, Kamsi, Miracle, siblings, aunties and uncles.
“Further burial arrangements will be announced in due course.”
Also confirming the death of the veteran journalist on his Facebook page, a friend, Obinna Ezugwu wrote, “Worst day of my life since I lost my dad. This truly hurts. RIP boss, Prince Emeka Obasi. It has been a battle but I know you are in a better place. It is well.”
Others, who knew Obasi closely during his lifetime, have also been expressing shock and condolences on the Facebook page.
The award winning journalst, founded Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre (PPRAC), organisers of the annual Zik Prize in Leadership Awards.
In 2018, the publisher launched a book titled — Saved for His Praise — wherein he chronicled how he survived an unknown illness that almost claimed his life.
It would also be recalled that before establishing Hallmark Newspaper, Obasi had previously published National Mirror Newspaper, which he later sold to billionaire businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim.
