Students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) have again taken to the streets to protest the on-going strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has entred Day-80 reports said.
As usual, the students were to have blocked the ever-busy Benin-Ore-Sagamu-Lagos Expressway, the University’s main gate and the Ring Road at the heart of Benin City, the state capital.
The protest caused gridlock on the highway for hours, forcing many motorists to avoid the route while those going into the state capital had to divert to other roads.
The students, in their hundreds, were also seen at the campus entrance chanting solidarity songs holding placards with inscriptions as ‘FG settle ASUU’, ‘Enough is Enough’, ‘End ASUU strike’
Interestingly, it was a day of heavy downpour, but the students defied it and went on with the protest to press home their demand.
It would be recalled that in February, the students had blocked the busy Benin/Lagos highway in solidarity with the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
