The City of Tshwane confirmed early on Tuesday morning that a loss of power supply from Eskom is currently affecting the Bronkhorstspruit area.

Eskom transmission officials said there was a flash on their overhead line.

“Thereafter, the 132 KV breaker at their substation tripped… They suspect 1-phase is on the ground. They are still busy with their investigations,” the city’s statement read.

The City of Tshwane said that the time of restoration of power is not available at the moment, but committed to communicating further updates as soon as they received feedback from Eskom.

Stage 1 load shedding

As for the rest of the country, stage 1 load shedding is currently being implemented. This follows the suspension of load shedding on Christmas Day due to the lower demand for electricity.

“Stage 1 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 on Monday morning until further notice. This is possible due to the lower demand for electricity during the day, reducing the reliance on emergency generation reserves.

“We appeal to the electricity consumers to continue to using electricity sparingly,” the power utility said in a brief statement.

This comes as a relief for many South Africans after stage 6 load shedding was implemented last Friday morning, owed to the breakdown of eight generating units.

This led to the use of open cycle gas turbines and pumped storage generation.
