Morgan Mammila has suggested that it is time for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to go home and retire.

In a Twitter post, the Chippa United coach said only a young local coach could be the piece that has been missing in Bafana returning to glory days.

He was giving his opinion as praises were heaped on Morocco coach Walid Regragui who has guided the Atlas Lions to the semifinals in the Fifa World Cup in Qatar.

Mammila tagged Swallows FC boss and friend David Mogashoa and popular sportscaster Robert Marawa in his tweets on Sunday.

“Wesho (slang for brother in Sepedi) David Mogashoa… Only young and local national team coaches will do well (for their countries,” wrote Mammila.

“We must not shy away from copying what is working for the national team of Morocco and other African countries who are at the World Cup.

“A 70-year-old pensioner must stay at home,” continues the tweet which at the time of writing had been retweeted 26-times and liked by 155 people.

While he did not name Broos by name, it is clear to decipher that he was referring to the Belgian mentor.

Broos was named Bafana coach in 2021 when he was 69-years-old. He is now 70.

The Belgian sweet-talked South African fans into buying into his philosophy in his first few media interviews.

Broos spoke about exclusively using young players below the age of 30 so as to rebuild the team for the future.

This didn’t sit well with some sections of the local football supporters as it meant excluding formidable players like Andile Jali and Themba Zwane.

But Broos has since changed his stance as more and more players aged 30 and above are called into his team.

Mammila is not the only one who believes a local coach should be hired at Bafana to change the team’s fortunes.

A few former Bafana players have also voiced their concerns at a lack of vision in the team’s set-up.
