City Power announces two planned power outages around Easter weekend in Joburg

According to City Power notices, outages will occur from 8am to 4pm in each area.

City Power Johannesburg has strategically scheduled its maintenance work around the upcoming Easter weekend, with outages planned both before and after the holidays.

The utility announced eight-hour outages affecting different neighbourhoods from 8am to 4pm.

Robertsham power outage

The first outage, originally scheduled for Tuesday, 8 April, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, 16 April 2025.

The power interruption at Robertsham Substation will take place from 8:00 until 16:00.

“The interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on our network, which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service,” City Power stated in their public announcement.

The outage will affect several areas, including the following:

  • Robertsham vicinity,
  • Robertsham East,
  • Robertsham Industrial,
  • Harry Street,
  • West Turffontein,
  • Gillview,
  • Theta,
  • Framton,
  • Hawden/Lakeview North, and
  • Evans Park.

Easter weekend relief before second outage

Residents will have a break from power interruptions during the Easter weekend festivities, with no planned outages from Good Friday (April 18) through Easter Monday.

However, shortly after, there’ll be an outage in the following areas.

Outage planned for Moffat Substation next week

A second maintenance outage has been scheduled for Wednesday, 23 April, at Moffat Substation.

This interruption will also run from 08:00 to 16:00 and will affect numerous areas, including:

  • City Deep Extensions,
  • Elandspark,
  • Electron,
  • Elladoone,
  • Unigray,
  • Klipriviersberg Estate,
  • Regents Park and its extensions,
  • Steeledale,
  • Regents Park Estate,
  • Roseacre and its extensions,
  • Moffat View and its extensions,
  • Rosettenville,
  • Rewlatch and its extensions, and
  • The Hill and its extensions.

City Power outages safety warning, and apology

For both outages, City Power emphasised safety precautions for residents in the affected areas.

“As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live,” the utility company advised.

City Power concluded both announcements with an apology: “City Power regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by this interruption.”
