Controversial blogger Musa Khawula will remain in custody after the Randburg Magistrate’s Court postponed his case again on Wednesday. The 33-year-old, known for his scandalous and often defamatory social media posts, faces multiple charges, including hate speech, violating the Cyber Crimes Act of 2020, and crimen injuria.
Legal Battle Continues
During his latest court appearance, Musa Khawula’s legal team raised concerns about his missing cellphone, which was confiscated as part of the investigation. His lawyer, Ofentse Nkwang, insisted that the device contained critical information for his defense.
“We would like to access Musa Khawula’s phone to obtain important information about his defense,” said Nkwang.
However, despite their request, the court rescheduled his trial to 9 and 10 April, meaning he will remain behind bars until then.
Another Court Stunt and Social Media Drama
As expected, Musa Khawula made headlines again with his antics in court. Just like in his previous appearances, he blew kisses at the media before being asked to stand down, a move that once again thrust him into the spotlight on social media.
His latest legal troubles stem from alleged defamatory tweets directed at businessman Ze Nxumalo in October 2024. The controversial blogger had previously accused Nxumalo of cheating on his pregnant wife, former Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green, an allegation that led to legal action against him.
Failure to Appear in Court Led to Arrest
Musa Khawula’s legal troubles escalated when he failed to appear in court after being ordered to remove defamatory posts about Nxumalo and Green from X (formerly Twitter). His failure to comply with the court order led to his arrest and subsequent detention.
Facing Additional Charges in a Separate Case
Surprisingly, his Randburg court appearance was his second court case of the week. He also appeared before the Fochville Magistrate’s Court for a different case, where he faces even more serious charges, including:
The allegations stem from a hit-and-run incident that occurred near Mponeng Mine in February 2021.
According to reports, Musa Khawula was allegedly involved in a car accident but failed to stop or assist the injured victim. Instead, he allegedly fled the scene, leaving the victim stranded on a deserted road. The injured person was only helped when another driver came to their rescue.
Posting from Jail? Correctional Services Investigates
Despite being behind bars, Musa Khawula has managed to stay active online, leading to speculation that he may have access to a cellphone while in jail. Earlier this month, he shocked the public by sharing a series of tweets from behind bars, raising serious concerns about prison security.
This prompted the Department of Correctional Services to launch an internal investigation into whether Khawula had access to a mobile device while in custody.
“I have asked around. We will have to check where the person is detained and whether he has access to a cellphone,” said Correctional Services Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.

Musa Khawula has gained notoriety as one of South Africa’s most controversial social media figures. His uncensored gossip and sensational claims have often landed him in trouble, but his fan base remains loyal.
Despite his legal troubles, some supporters continue to rally behind him, while others believe his reckless behavior has finally caught up with him.
As his court battles continue, South Africans remain glued to updates, eager to see how his legal drama unfolds in the coming weeks.
