The 2022 edition of Golfsixes Nigeria Tournament on Saturday came to an end in a grand style with “Team I” comprising the quartet of Jolomi Ideh; Chris Ola; Loveth Omoighe and Omini Ofem emerging the new champions.
The two-day event meant to celebrate senior citizens of Nigeria, aged 55 and above teed off on Friday September 23 with 64 senior golfers of 16 teams who battled for the last eight at the end of the Day-1.
By Saturday September 24 (Day-2), it was swinging, chipping and putting of the last eight champion teams; Interestingly Team I were ‘too hot to hold and too cold to handle’ by their opponents scaling through in a blistering style of 2/3.
However, “Team E” which comprises Bola Temowo; Yomi Egbe; Biyi Fetuga and Akin Areola were second; “Team A” of Aare Oyefeso; George Taylor; Funke Majekodunmi and Bunmi Oladimeji took the third position and “Team N” which has Doyin Owolabi; Iyabo Ogunaike; Chudi Ubosi and Dupe Oyeduntan were fourth, completing the trophy positions of the tournament.
Invariably, Ideh who was the leader of champions, Team I, commenting on the teams performance believed ‘it was a well deserved victory, because they prepared for the tournament.’
Doyin Owolabi, who however did a postmortem of the event commended the organisers,4E Sports Limited for living up to expectations affirming the tournament was overwhelmingly voted excellent, while hoping the next edition would surpass the just concluded one.
Also speaking Alhaji (Dr) Awa Ibraheem, President of Ikeja Golf Club and one of the major sponsors, reiterated his unalloyed support for 4E Sports as he urged the executive to take into consideration the grey areas that should be improved upon.
Meanwhile, Emy Ekong, a co-founder of 4E Sports in a chat with SOKOnnect in her appreciations of participants vote of confidence on the event, asserted that all grey areas and suggestions would be addressed towards making the tournament greater in the future.
She concluded by thanking everyone for being part of the success and wishing them a safe journey to their various destinations.
