‘Cyberpunk 2077’ updateWATCH: Game of the Year edition‘Cyberpunk 2077’ sequel: ‘Orion’Phantom Liberty’ and ‘Orion’ release

Game developer CD Projekt Red (CDPR) confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting a ‘Game of the Year’ (GoY) edition.

Reports claim Cyberpunk 2077 will be re-released next year, and the GoY edition will include 2023’s planned (and paid) Phantom Liberty expansion.

‘Cyberpunk 2077’ update

Considering the amount of criticism Cyberpunk 2077 received when a severely flawed version of the game was released back in December 2020, CDPR President Adam Kicinski said:

“It was the same with Witcher which, after both expansions, was finally released as a game of the year edition and has been on the market that way ever since.”

Meanwhile, it’s been reported the GoY edition will be limited to some platforms – the Phantom Liberty will skip last-gen consoles and will only be playable on PC, PS5, and the Xbox X/S Series. (

Players can also look forward to Night City, a “fresh story which will take them into an all-new district with the new expansion”.

‘Cyberpunk 2077’ sequel: ‘Orion’

Back in October, CDPR said a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is in the works – currently code-named Orion.

Kicinski said Orion “will fully unleash the potential this universe offers”. It was initially rumoured that the sequel will likely be multi-player but that plan has since been canned.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Lead Quest Designer Philip Weber said the multi-player plans weren’t a priority; instead, the focus will be on ensuring “the main experience will be in a really good state”.

In order to ensure the important video game development stages are prioritised, other “R&D [research and development] projects had to go away”.

He explained: “Cyberpunk, we wanted to do many things at the same time, and we just needed to really focus and say, ‘Okay, what’s the important part? Yeah, we will make that part really good.’”

Phantom Liberty’ and ‘Orion’ release

Phantom Liberty follows a spy-thriller narrative and yes, the insufferable Johnny Silverhand (portrayed by Keanu Reeves) will return.

In fact, both V and Johnny appear in the teaser trailer. CDPR also teased us with a vague storyline about the NUSA (New United States of America).

Kiciski more recently said a team consisting of 350 people are currently “concentrating on the final stage of the development of Phantom Liberty.”

Kiciski also revealed during the company’s third-quarter earnings report that pre-production of Orion will only begin in 2023.

Note: we said pre-production, not production, and knowing CDPR’s track record, we’re in for a long wait…
