Thabo Bester: Police open murder case against Facebook rapist

Police said a case of murder has been opened after it emerged that the man dubbed the “Facebook rapist” Thabo Bester may have killed someone during his brazen escape from prison.

Over the weekend, an investigation by the Department of Correctional Services revealed the charred body found after a fire broke out at the Free State’s Mangaung private prison was not that of the convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester.

City of Tshwane granted more time to sort out its budget after mayor mess

The City of Tshwane has been handed another lifeline by Gauteng provincial Treasury to pass the metro’s adjustment budget.

The Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality is yet to table the mid-year budget as well as adjusted service delivery and budget implementation plan due to the city being without an executive mayor.

KZN killings spark concern

Opposition parties in KwaZulu-Natal are demanding answers from the provincial police leadership amid concerns that the escalation of shootings in the province is due to weak policing.

This is as five people were killed in drive-by shootings in separate incidents on the north and south coasts last week.

Eskom has ramped up load shedding, providing an outlook until Wednesday.

The crumbling state-owned entity on Sunday implemented stage 1 of the deliberate power cuts from 4pm until 5am on Monday.

AKA murder: 5 suspects arrested after police found getaway car

Five people have been taken in for questioning by the police over the murder of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, also known as AKA.

A Netwerk24 report claims that three men were initially arrested at the Erica Square shopping centre in Belhar on Sunday. Two more men were then apprehended in another part of Belhar.

Williams calls on Bafana to learn their lesson and take down Liberia

Ronwen Williams has called on Bafana Bafana to learn from the mistakes they made at home as they bid to beat Liberia on Tuesday evening in Monrovia and qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Bafana will take on the West African side at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, in front of a hostile home crowd, on an artificial pitch of unknown quality, needing three points to make the Afcon finals in the Ivory Coast early next year.
