
Delta State Softball team has emerged winners of the maiden edition of the Victor Chukwudumebi Achakpo National Division One Baseball and Softball League after blowing away Lagos Team sixteen runs to zero in seven Innings at the Saint Patricks College Asaba pitch.
Delta State which had dominated the sport in the last sixteen years over ran the Lagos ladies in a one sides encounter to claim back to back victory having earlier defeated Kwara eight runs to zero in Seven Innings.
Presenting the trophy and cheque to the winners the Minister for Youths and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare said that the league had helped to revive Softball in Nigeria saying he hoped that the tempo would be sustained in a bid to return the Nation to its pride of place in the international circuit.
Chief Dare who also splashed one hundred and fifty thousand naira on the winners enjoined them to continue to work harder in a bid to make the sports more popular in the nation.
Meanwhile Delta State Team has qualified for the final of the Baseball league after cruising past Kwara State eight runs to four in seven Innings in a keenly contested encounter to keep hopes alive of claiming the top prize of the on-going tournament.
In other results, Rivers State sent Niger State packing after claiming an eight run to four win over Niger State with Lagos crushing Ekiti State seventeen runs to three in seven Innings.
Delta will face Lagos in the Final with Kwara challenging River State in the third place match tomorrow at St. Patrick’s College Asaba
