Jonny Grove released the EP ’23 & Blessed’ on the 24th of February to commemorate his 23rd birthday. Pressing play on the project, you are met with a rapper who is articulate and oozes confidence. He’s accompanied by solid production; the beats bang, the mixing is decent and the overall project can stand alongside that of established acts.
In the EP’s six songs, Jonny explores themes of faith and expresses his gratitude at receiving another year of life despite the many challenges he has faced. He dives a bit deeper into some of those challenges and the impact they’ve had on him, and displays incredible self-awareness as well as his ability to articulate his innermost thoughts and insecurities effectively.
“I’m excited to peel back the layers of my life and my mind before the listener and I pray my joys and pains expressed in this EP can provide solace and comfort for those in need”, says Jonny about the EP.
Jonny Grove, born Bevin Jon Wingrove, is an emerging rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, and creative from Joburg. Growing up in the South of Johannesburg, Jonny always had an immense passion for music, particularly rap music and the culture of Hip-Hop.
Some of his early Hip-Hop influences include Drake, Lil Wayne, Eminem, and Kanye West. At age 16 he started DJing in high school as a hobby, however, he taught himself how to make beats and quickly grew fond of both producing and rapping.
From 2018 to 2021 Jonny began consistently dropping music on Soundcloud and has been growing consistently as an artist ever since.
We believe Jonny Grove is off a good start and is definitely one rapper to watch.
