End of the cold snap? What to expect this weekend?

According to the weather service, there is no expected rainfall, and wind speeds will be light, mainly coming from the southwest.

As South Africa prepares for winter, Gauteng residents can shake off the lingering winter chill as they welcome a shift in the weather this weekend.

After several cold days, the province will experience milder temperatures and clear skies, bringing much-needed respite to Joburg and Pretoria.

Saturday: Milder day in store

Saturday, 17 May 2025, promises to be a day of mostly clear skies with pleasant temperatures throughout Gauteng.

In Johannesburg, the day will start with a cool morning temperature of 12°C, rising to a maximum of 22°C by midday.

Temperatures will dip again to 17°C in the evening, but humidity will remain relatively low at around 30% to 50% throughout the day.

According to the South African Weather Service, there is no expected rainfall for the day, and wind speeds will be light, mainly coming from the southwest.

Joburg residents can expect clear skies during the afternoon, ideal for outdoor activities or getting some sun.

Pretoria will see similar conditions, with temperatures ranging from a low of 12°C in the early morning to a high of 24°C later in the day.

No rain is expected in the city, and the weather will remain clear for most of the day.

Sunday: warmer weather

Sunday, 18 May 2025, will continue the trend of mild, clear weather, though temperatures will be slightly warmer.

In Johannesburg, temperatures will start at 15°C at 8am and peak at around 22°C in the afternoon.

The wind will remain light and skies will remain mostly clear, although a few clouds may appear in the evening.

Pretoria will experience even warmer conditions, with temperatures climbing to a maximum of 25°C.

Similar to Joburg, the weather will be clear and calm throughout the day, with no chance of rain.
