Gareth Southgate will have questions to ask about his midfield moving forward into their finale against Wales, and there will be discussions about personnel in the attack as well. Harry Kane had a chance to win the match at the death but put his header wide.

Wow. What a thrilling match, and in the end, the points are shared. That’s a valuable point for both sides, and while fans will be upset not to get a goal from their immense amounts of pressure, it’s still an impressive performance from the U.S. overall.
Berhalter will again get questions regarding his substitutions, but overall, the U.S. brought it to England today, and did everything but score.
90+4 min: The United States will have a free-kick with the final action of the game…it’s down the line to Reyna, it goes out of play…and that’s the final whistle. A total waste at the end.
90+2 min: Chance, England! With four minutes of stoppage time to play, Jack Grealish intercepts a Zimmerman pass down the gut and Yunus Musah fouls him to concede a set-piece. This is a dangerous moment for England at the death, and they’re in no hurry to take…
Shaw to deliver…AND KANE HEADS WIDE! It was a free header, and he completely flubs it! Kane beat Tim Ream, and the ball comes off the top of his head and it goes well wide. That’s the game won right there for England, but the chance goes by.

89th min: In one of the most wacko passages of play you’ll ever see, started by Matt Turner who dribbles out of his own penalty area past two England attackers, Aaronson finds Shaq Moore whose cutback from the right is cleared. The United States is unloading the kitchen sink to find a goal in this one.
85th min: England have a dangerous set-piece, and it’s a great curling out-swinger, but Tim Ream gets onto it first to clear, and then Pulisic is fouled to clear the danger. This will be a thrilling finish to this match, can either side get a winner?
82nd min: U.S. fans clamoring for Gio Reyna will get their wish. Tim Weah makes way as the Borussia Dortmund youngster comes onto the field. Josh Sargent also makes his first appearance, with Wright off.
80th min: The United States send a ball down the right for Weah, and it takes just a massive tackle from Harry Maguire to stop the counter. He comes up holding the back of his left leg. He’s been absolutely immense for England today, that would be a worrying injury.
77th min: After an insanely long passage of play, the U.S. can finally make the substitution as Aaronson comes on for McKennie. It’s a sensational performance from McKennie, who is spent, and will be saved for the all-important Iran game. Shaq Moore comes on for Dest as well, as expected.

74th min: Grealish has completely turned this game on its head, and England are beginning to regain their ascendency. U.S. players look like they’re beginning to tire. Brenden Aarsonson is ready on the touchline waiting for a moment to come in, likely for McKennie, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Sergino Dest replaced at some point soon as well.
70th min: Jack Grealish’s first touch is a beautiful one, weaving his way through defenders at the top-left corner of the penalty area, and Weston McKennie puts in a dangerous tackle, but gets away with it as he dispossesses Grealish. England looking to regain a foothold in this match, Berhalter will have to respond at some point.
68th min: The substitutions are finally made from England. It’s Henderson and Jack Grealish for Jude Bellingham and Raheem Sterling. Phil Foden’s absence remains a mystery.
65th min: Jordan Henderson is being readied by Gareth Southgate. The England boss wants to shore up the midfield, which is being torn to shreds. Henderson, at his third World Cup, did not play in the opener against Iran.
63rd min: It is ALL USA right now. Loud chants around the stadium in Qatar, and England players showing lots of frustration. Adams fouled in midfield. Not sure what Gareth Southgate is waiting for to make needed substitutions. A sixth corner coming for the US…
It’s another great delivery, and Pickford gets a slight touch to concede yet another corner from the other side. It’s a U.S. wave right now…and a foul on Raheem Sterling relieves the pressure for England. The United States still can’t find an opener.
59th min: The U.S. earns a corner, and Pulisic, who was awful on set-piece deliveries against Wales, puts in a brilliant ball to the far post. Walker Zimmerman gets free, but it’s cleared away just before the U.S. center-back can get there. The United States have picked up where they left off in the first half.
He puts in two more brilliant deliveries from corners, but Harry Maguire is there to clear both. The Manchester United center-back has been big today.
53rd min: Tim Weah takes a really hefty challenge from Luke Shaw who goes over the ball and onto the shins of Weah with his studs. Not even a foul is whistled for. It should have been at least a yellow, and maybe even a red card. Somehow, VAR does not intervene either. Just really poor officiating yet again.

49th min: Chance, USA! McKennie skies another chance! A sensational tackle by Antonee Robinson springs a counter, and Haji Wright ends up with it in front of net. His right-footed rip is blocked, but the ball falls to Weston outside the top-right corner of the penalty area. He takes aim, and sends the ball into Row Z. His second whiff!

46th min: The second half is under way. The United States looked by far the better side in the first half, but both teams were dangerous at times. Gregg Berhalter needs to show he can coach on the fly in the second half, now’s as good a time as any for U.S. fans.
No changes out of halftime for either team. Weston McKennie was a different player in the first half, a welcome sight for U.S. fans. He’s on a yellow card, though, and needs to be careful in this second half.

Halftime whistle: Through the opening 45 minutes, England were well beaten by the U.S. on the run of play, but the United States was unable to find an opener to cash in. It’s a major let-off for the European side, and Gareth Southgate will have to make changes at the break.
Gregg Berhalter was out-coached by Wales head man Rob Page in the second half of their first World Cup match, unable to respond in a timely manner to their halftime substitution. Can he do better now against Southgate’s changes?
45+1 min: Chance, England! MATT TURNER SAVES ON MASON MOUNT! It’s the best chance of the half for England, as Mount takes aim from outside the penalty area with nobody in his way, but Turner gets down low to stop the effort. Big moment for him in his first official save of the half.
45th min: Finally England have a dangerous move forward, and Luke Shaw nutmegs Sergino Dest to create an opening. Raheem Sterling meets the horizontal ball but he’s cut off and fires well wide and over. It was an extremely tight angle for the shot, a very low percentage effort.

43rd min: Chance, USA! Now Pulisic goes wide with a header! This is unrelenting pressure from the United STates, but again they fail to cash in.

41st min: The United States continues to be the better attacking team. Sergino Dest now moves forward into the box and takes a rip, but it’s deflected by Harry Maguire for a corner. The pressure from the North American underdogs is relentless.
Pulisic’s corner delivery is good, but there’s hardly anyone there to meet it. Odd set-piece there from the U.S.
36th min: It’s a half-chance for England in what would have been an absolutely audacious attempt from Raheem Sterling, who flicks a backheel goal-ward with his back to net, but it’s blocked by Walker Zimmerman. That would have been stunning.
Christian Pulisic nearly catches England napping as Matt Turner’s deep kick finds the U.S. winger streaking on the counter, but John Stones does just enough to push it out for a throw. Excellent intent, and brilliant distribution from the Arsenal goalkeeper.
33rd min: Chance, USA! PULISIC OFF THE CROSSBAR! Musah and McKennie both involved in the buildup, and the Chelsea man rips a laser that hammers straight off the woodwork. The U.S. have been the better attacking side over the past 15 minutes, but have nothing to show for it. Canada looked bright early against Belgium a few days ago but were punished for a lack of finishing, the U.S. could suffer a similar fate if they don’t cash in soon.
31st min: Yunus Musah is taken down in transition by John Stones, and goes rolling away. Tyler Adams is pleading for a yellow card, but the Venezuelan referee does not go to his pocket. McKennie moments later is whistled for a soft foul.
The U.S. players showed significant frustration with the officiating in the draw with Wales, for good reason, and they’re similarly aggravated today.
29th min: The USMNT is feeling it now, as Musah has a hit from deep. It’s a good effort, but it takes a deflection right into the arms of Pickford. England look surprised by the U.S. attacking intent.
26th min: Chance, USA! OH NO! That HAS to be in the back of the net! Weston McKennie has an INCREDIBLE chance to open the scoring, but he blasts it over the bar!
A fantastic cross from Weah on the right finds the Juventus midfielder right on the penalty spot unmarked, but he’s leaning back and skies it with the goal gaping. Best chance of the game for either side, and it goes begging. You cannot miss those opportunities against the No. 5 team in the world.
