Soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo has come under harsh criticism from fans after Saudi Arabia reportedly bent its strict laws prohibiting couples from living together to accommodate his partner Georgina Rodríguez.
Ronaldo has been dating Rodríguez since 2016, and the couple shares five children, two of which are from a surrogate. Ronaldo has never disclosed the identity of his first child’s mother. They also share two biological children.
Not enough for marriage
Their engagement, long-term relationship, shared children and a move to a strict Muslim country that outlaws cohabitation was seemingly not enough for Ronaldo to seal the deal with Rodríguez, and fans were quick to notice.

Fans also noted the privileges that come with being the highest-paid soccer player in the world.
Some fans also encouraged Rodríguez to leave the relationship, while others argued Ronaldo’s financial prowess might make him vulnerable in a marriage.

The Saudi Arabian government will reportedly turn a blind eye to the couple living together according to EFE, a Spanish news agency.
“Although the laws still prohibit cohabitation without a marriage contract, the authorities have begun to turn a blind eye and do not persecute anyone. Of course, these laws are used when there is a problem or a crime,” one lawyer said in the report.
Another legal expert concurred, revealing that the Saudi authorities no longer interfere with foreigners’ matters. “The Saudi Arabian authorities, today, do not interfere in this matter [in the case of foreigners], but the law continues to prohibit cohabitation outside of marriage,” quoted the Spanish publication.
