‘The separation of the joint may result in loss of control of the affected wheel…’

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa is recalling Ford Rangers that were made available for sale in 2024 due to a faulty part that can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

This recall follows a recall of six car brands by their manufacturers. All recalled cars can increase the risk of an accident or injury.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) was recently informed by the manufacturers of these cars.

Ford Ranger recall

The NCC stated that the faulty Ford Rangers were sold in South Africa and subsequently distributed to neighbouring countries. “The product was exported to Namibia, Botswana, and Swaziland.”

The cars are being recalled because a front lower control arm may have been fitted on the left-hand side of the vehicle, instead of the correct one.

“The separation of the joint may result in loss of control of the affected wheel, with the corresponding effect on the vehicle handling increasing, which may increase the risk of a crash or injury.”

Ford Ranger recall in Australia

Those who own the cars are required to contact their nearest authorised dealership for an appointment to have the defect repaired.

Earlier in May 2025, Ford Australia issued a recall for Ford Ranger and Everest models manufactured between 2022 and 2025. The total number of affected cars was 13 490.

According to 4×4 Australia, the recall was due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the left-hand engine camshaft sprocket to fracture.

“A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving increases the risk of an accident, which may result in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Recall of other car brands

Earlier in May, the NCC informed the public about recalls involving seven different car brands.

The cars being recalled are Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler 300C, Citroen C4, DS4, and DS5 models, Mercedes-Benz CLA (118), S-Class (model series 223), Audi, VW Polo Sedan and Volvo XC90.

The faults in the cars can cause severe injuries. Consumers are urged to visit their nearest authorised dealership immediately for inspection and repairs.
