Former Tshwane mayor, Murunwa Makwarela, voluntarily surrendered himself at Brooklyn police station in the early hours of Monday morning.
Makwarela was expected to appear in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on the same day, according to NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.
The former mayor is facing charges related to a fraudulent insolvency rehabilitation certificate that he submitted to the City in an effort to remain as mayor.
Makwarela resigned last month after a chaotic campaign in which he maintained his innocence despite the allegations.
