Funmilayo Beauty Oyero has cried out on the need for her to have a sponsor ostensibly to improve her game as well as becoming a member of a golf club within and outside Nigeria.
The 9-year-old who started playing golf at the age of two, made history as the youngest athlete when she represented Lagos State in the 2023 National Youth Games which was held in Asaba, Delta State.
She believes that becoming a member of a golf club will expose her to quality facilities and regular training as well as learning more about the game, alongside her education.
The 2021 category 6-8 (years) champion of Awa Ibraheem Junior Championship speaking through her manager and father, Yomi Oyero said, “Funmilayo has come a long way in junior golf, she’s doing very well; but it’s high time she got a sponsor that can help her secure club membership which will expose her to quality facilities and regular training.”
“It’s said that you strike the iron when it’s hot; at age 9, she’s already approaching teenage and it’s the reason we’re appealing for sponsorship now to help build her up in the game, alongside her education to enable her focus properly and avoid distractions,” the manager said.
Funmilayo is from a family of golfers and the younger sister of Destiny Oyero, the Nigerian Under-13 golf champion; recently, she won the Ikoyi Golf Club 2024 Children’s Day Championship and was runners-up at the 2024 IBB Junior Championship; aside Lagos State, she is also representing Ikeja Golf Club in inter-club golf events.
