Ridwan “Scorpion” Oyekola, Nigerian Super Featherweight champion will face Ghanaian Emmanuel Noi Mensah in a boxing bout tagged ‘Ibadan Knockout’ on August 27, 2021 at Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort Ibadan.
The bout is in preparation of the World Boxing Federation (WBF) title defence which is expected to be very fierce.
Oyekola who is in a killer mood ahead of his anticipated WBF title defence in October has vowed to destroy the Ghanaian within the first to second round to send a warning signal to prospective opponents while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan ahead of the Ibadan Knockout.
Other seven bouts lined up for the “Ibadan Knockout Boxing” show are the fight involving the national bantamweight champion, Abeeb ‘Igge’ Oladeji locking horns with Arabambi Idris popularly known as OJ boy, while Kazeem Lawal ‘the Killer and Femi Akintayo ‘Small Tyson’ will battle in the middle weight category.
Other bouts that will spice up the day are the one involving Jamiu Akande ‘Sunshine’ and the heavy puncher Moses Apata popularly called Apata Roro in the national lightweight challenge, while Ayobami Azeez ‘Latest will fight Mutiu Lawal ‘Tato in the lightweight category.
Adekunle Hammed otherwise known as Ese Kunle will fight against Abdul Rashid Idowu in the middleweight category while two female contenders, Blessing Godwin, ‘The Star-Girl’ would battle out Kaosara Rasheed in female Middleweight category while Gbenga Oluokun popularly called Aglar by his admirer will fight in the heavyweight category on the day.
The promoter of the boxing show, Sola Ayodele, the CEO of Core Afrique Boxing Promotions has promised an exciting boxing show, speaking from the backdrop of a successful WBF title bout held last December at the Ilaji Resort.
He however, described the game of boxing as a good means of livelihood, especially for the teeming youths in Ibadan that are often involved in the act of hooliganism, urging them to embrace boxing to make a good name for their family and make money.
The Chief Operating Officer of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resorts, Mr. Adesina Araoye has also declared readiness to host the boxing show saying “last year precisely December we hosted world boxing bout here which we more or less bankrolled and it cost us millions of naira, so we decided to convert that into opportunities.
“To do that we have to go fully into boxing, so we decided to have our own standard boxing, we had to hire a boxing ring for last year event, and now we have our own boxing ring where several boxing bouts will be taking place, and this is also available for hire for other boxing promoters and other organizations,” he noted.
