The Lady Captain of Dolphin Golf Club Lagos, Mrs. Onwuegbu Bose Ngozi has explained how she has become more of a calm person after embracing the game of golf which has also taught her ability to harsh conditions.
The zonal representative, South/West of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) revealed this while responding to questions from the sporting press in Ibadan where she relished many lessons learnt from the game of golf, while advocating for more women’s involvement in golf.
“Golf is a frustrating game, but we can’t give in to these frustrations as golfers must calmly accept adversity, the virtue I have imbibed while playing the game. And golf has also teaches us courtesy and respect for others. We don’t talk during someone’s shot or do anything to distract them. The golf course may be the last bastion of courtesy.
Onwuegbu stressed that golf also demands honesty as it goes against our nature to count every stroke and finish every putt, adding that one can’t improve until face what he or she is shooting now.
“Fudging our score is like cheating on a test. It’s the reason golf pencils don’t have erasers. Golf gives us many opportunities to cheat, but we’re only cheating ourselves” she explained.
The 27 handicapper who is also a chieftain of All Former Athletes Association of Nigeria (AFAAN) how revealed her plans to commend advocacies in Ladies Section of Dolphin Golf Club Lagos to enhance improved performances and more women’s participation in golf.
