The 24th edition of the Nigeria Cup organisers have affirmed that the pre-qualifying competition would hold on August 28, 2021 at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section in Lagos.
This development was made known to the press during the unveiling of the Nigeria Cup programme as well as the Local Organising Committee (LOC) lead by Mr. Frank Igbene and assisted by Mr. Tade Adekunle and Mrs. Ronke Iyola.
The committee is set up to provide the best Nigeria Cup tournament ever; raising of finds and executing plans for the weeklong competitions expected to be prosecuted under full COVID-19 protocol.
It was against this backdrop, the Practice Range of the Ikoyi Golf course, is now a beehive of activities as golfers have commended preparations for the pre-qualifying competition.
In the same vein, potential corporate sponsors of the event have also been making inquiries towards partnering the organisers for the competition, just as work is already on-going to keep the fairways, greens and the bunkers in the best playing conditions.
Recalled that the annual Nigeria Cup was established in 1997 by the Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association (IGCNA) and hosted by Ikoyi Club to celebrate Nigeria’s Independent Anniversary, it has also been adjudged the most popular and glamorous amateur golf event with a competition for six different categories; some of which involve staff, caddies, professional golfers, male and female golfers of the Ikoyi Club.
The Nigeria Cup has become a financial vehicle, which impacts on its immediate environment through strategic investments in the golf infrastructure of Ikoyi Club Golf Section as well as donating to charities in Lagos State.
Hence the theme of the 2021 Nigeria Cup is, “Tapping Back To The Fairway.” It connotes a desire to strengthen golf etiquettes and the organisation of golf activities in Ikoyi.
