A routine drive of 200km between two cities in China ended up taking the driver of a Haval H6 C on a 500km unplanned road trip after the vehicle’s cruise control failed to deactivate.

Cruising with no brakes

According to the China’s AutoHome, the driver, only identified as Mr Luo, was driving down the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway, often referred to as the G4 that links the capital with Hong Kong, when the H6 C’s cruise control that had been set to 100 km/h failed to disengage.

The bizarre turn of events on the journey from Changsha in Hunan province to Yichun in Jiangxi Province wasn’t over though as besides the cruise control failure, the H6 C’s brakes had ceased solid without any prior indication.

Reportedly, Luo lost his composure and started crying, but soon managed to gather his thoughts and phone the highway police, who responded with an escort of several vehicles until the H6 C ran out of fuel in Guangdong Province that serves as the gateway to Macau and Hong Kong.

According to the online publication, attempts to contact Haval proved fruitless despite numerous attempts.

Reasons unknown

While speculation points to a likely electronics fault, the exact cause wasn’t immediately determined or provided as the H6 C has had to be sent back to Haval for analysis.
