Ex-Idols South Africa judge Unathi Nkayi is making headlines after her recent interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG, which made rounds on social media.
With an illustrious career spanning years, Unathi Nkayi has quickly become one of the most sought-after stars in South Africa.
She has wowed many with her unmatched flair but has also had her fair share of drama. However, her huge social media following often thrusts her into the top trends.
The bubbly media personality is trending after she opened up about her constrained relationship with Somizi and the reasons behind her Idols SA’s exit.
She also opened up about her Kaya FM woes, which led to her dramatic exit in 2021. Unathi Nkayi and Somizi had a good working relationship despite not being friends.
However, Unathi Nkayi claims that her relationship with Somizi was constrained in 2021 when he was removed from Idols SA after his marital woes with Mohale Motaung.
Somizi hogged headlines when Mohale accused him of gender-based violence. No doubt the allegations led to his brief exit from Idols SA.
However, amid Somizi’s woes, Unathi Nkayi made some remarks about R Kelly, who was convicted around that time. Her comments on R Kelly seemingly implicated Somizi in the mix.
She said, ‘R Kelly was convicted, and I happened to post that I was happy about R Kelly being convicted. And they were like, ‘Yeah, what about your friend?’
However, she claims that her response took a knock on her working relationship with Somizi. “And I was like, he’s not my friend; he’s Thomas’ friend. So, I don’t have to defend anything,” she said.
Surprisingly, Somizi’s return saw Unathi Nkayi and Randal leaving the show after years.
However, Unathi Nkayi also vowed to sue her former employer, Kaya FM. After her dramatic exit, reports have it that she dragged the station to the courts for unfair dismissal.
However, despite these revelations, the bubbly radio host has kept her side of the story and is keen to continue fighting the station through the courts.
Reports have it that the award-winning radio host is demanding R1.6 million for being unfairly dismissed from the station.
Unathi Nkayi accused Sizwe Dhlomo of hurling profanities at her in the studio. However, the station’s internal investigation found Unathi Nkayi guilty after her daring allegations against Dhlomo.
Several reports have it that she was given an ultimatum to apologize to Dhlomo but ‘refused’ to do so. Her actions left the station with no choice but to dismiss her immediately.
