The 2021 IBB Junior Open has come and gone and the rest is now history with Team Rivers only woman player, Christy Obomanu-Assisi, promising to fight stronger another day.
Christy, 13, who has been returning better performance since participating in the tournament, this time around ended up 4th, below the trophy level.
Recalled that Godwin Okoko of David Mark Academy, Otukpo shot 75, 76, 75 over three days to emerge the overall winner of the tournament.
Christy responding however said, “My game on the first day was not good, but on the second day I played better and moved to the third position. On the third day, I wanted to play better but it didn’t happen and I dropped to the 4th position.
Against this backdrop, the Vine International School student promised to come back stronger in subsequent tournaments.
According to her, “I will keep working on my game to do better in other tournaments that will come up,” just as she commented those who made it possible for her and others to participate in the tournament.
“I want to thank Mr Ugo; Mr Emeka and Mr Abraham and others for their supports which enebled us take part in this tournament,” adding that good sponsorships would make a difference in their performance.
Team Rivers to the IBB Junior Open also include two other players, Henry Harry and Divine Paul; they also struggled in tournament.
It would be recalled that Judith Obomanu-Assisi, the mother of Christy has been hugely behind the progress of junior golf development in Rivers State.
