Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu Hails Ikeja Ladies Over First Lady Open Golf Championship

Dr (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has applauded the Ladies Section of Ikeja Golf Club Lagos for putting up a tournament geared towards youth and sport development.

Mrs Sanwo-Olu made the statement in her address during the just concluded 3rd Edition of the Lagos State First Lady Open Golf Championship which held at the Ikeja Golf Club between April 29 and 30, 2022.

Represented by Tawa-Osinowo, wife of the Chairman Agboh-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State and Dr (Mrs) Yemi Osanyintolu during the opening and closing ceremony, she said that the championship was in tune with the state’s commitment towards supporting women and girls to foster a world of equal opportunity without gender imbalance.

The First Lady who was pleased with the initiative of the championship said, “It’s part of the numerous strategic interventions aimed at youth and sport development,” in Lagos State.

In the same vein she said, “It’s in line with the Lagos State commitment to support women and girls, thereby fostering equal world where no gender is left behind..”

Against this backdrop the Mrs Sanwo-Olu affirmed, “It is therefore inspiring and commendable that the Ladies Section of Ikeja Golf Club is leading and focussing the right energy on motivating and encouraging junior golfers with the view to catching them young and imbibing the right spirit of excellence and greatness.”

She summarised her enthusiasm by urging the upcoming golfers to ensure their education does not suffer: “You must also take your education even more seriously and equally draw inspiration from great golfers who making waves nationality and internationally.”

Mrs Busola Ladipo, the Ikeja Lady Vice Captain also commenting thanked the the First Lady for living up to her promise of supporting the Championship return to the Ikeja Ladies golfing calendar after eight years of interregnum.

The elated Lady Vice Captain pleaded for more support from individuals and group to ensure the continuity of the championship as it is aimed at developing the game of with its attendant benefits to humanity.

But the Vice Captain was quick to commend the numerous organisations as First Bank; Golf View; Expression and a host of others for making the championship a success.

However, the championship was concluded with a new champion in Diana Osmond of Ikeja Golf Club, playing off handicap 8, who grossed 164 to beat Evelyn Oyome also of Ikeja Golf Club, handicap 6, to the second position with 169 gross.

The third position went to Lynda Obieze of Ikeja Golf Club too, handicap 15, 171 gross and the fourth position was Chichi Alamu, also of Ikeja Club, handicap 11, 173 gross.

The well attended championship had golfers from across the country as prizes and awards were also presented to other personalities and participants.
