Tunji Oladosu, Captain of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) following the sudden demise of Ola Ibironke has announced December 3-4, 2021 as the new date for the much publicised Captain’s Invitational Golf Competition.

The maiden tournament introduced to celebrate Captains of golf clubs, either past or present was earlier slated for 18th of September 2021, but had to be postponed because of the death of Ola Ibironke who initiated the competition on 12th September.

A trophy in memory of Ibironke, according to Oladosu has been introduced as a major cup to be competed for with mouth watering incentives attached, during the tournament that is opened to all golfers from major golf clubs in Nigeria.

“A close friend and confidant to out late captain, Otunba Abimbola Davis is sponsoring Ola Ibironke Cup with mouth watering incentive attached expected to be won during the maiden tournament, this is part of our efforts to immortalize the name of Ibironke’, said Oladosu.

The captain added, “We are expecting lots of golfers and that is why we are not leaving any stone unturned towards ensuring an itch-free tournament. The organizing committee for this epic golf event is chaired by Elder Larry Agose, who is also a past Captain of IGC”. He added that “The idea is to celebrate our Captains, either past or present, bringing them together to fete in a social gathering considering their selfless efforts in serving as golf club captain. People in that category in golfing have worked selflessly for humanity, and it is time now to be served too,” said Oladosu.

Other golf clubs are expected to be bidding to host the subsequent editions of the competition as designed by the organisers.
