Over 110 golfers are gearing up for what will be the first ever Eclectic Amateur Team Championship billed for the prestigious Ikeja Golf Club Lagos from October 27-29, 2022.

The championship which according to the organisers will draw participants from across Nigeria and its West African neighbours promises bumper packages for winners.

The choice of Rwanda is in recognition of the fact that it is now arguably tourists destination in Africa.with an interestingly growing economy and a top notch cultural heritage.

As a game with special scoring format that allows a player to improve on his/her performance in a multiple round in championship the winner of this first edition will get a ticket to Kigali, Rwanda’s political capital – all expense paid.

The second place player invariably, is guaranteed an all expense paid accommodation in the Republic of Benin, just as the third place winner will enjoy same luxury in Nigeria at the Golf View Hotel, Lagos. There will be many other prizes .

The event put together under the auspices of The Spirit Golf International, it was said would be registered and get the blessings of the world golf governing body, Royal and Ancient (R&A) of St Andrews, Scotland as a sub regional event that promotes golf development.

Commenting ahead of the championship, Abel Edinomo, a co-founder and secretary general of West Africa Amateur Golf Association (WAAGA) and one-time Technical Director of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) believes it is another way of diversifying the game of golf for more corporate presence and pleasure of golfers.

“We’re baptising eclectic event as a championship for the first time in Nigeria and West Africa; enough of medals event, let’s up the game to something that will make golf more exciting for the amateur players,” Edinomo reasoned.

Edinomo added that corporate bodies and individuals would have to take advantage of the event to expand their reach, “they will interact, socialise to expand their business network, which is one of the many opportunities that the game of golf provides.”

Invariably, Thursday October 27 is the arrival date for participants as well as cocktail party; Friday October 28 is Day-1 round and Saturday October 29, will be Day-2 round and the final day as presentation follows later.
