Ilorin Lady Captain Relishes Children’s Day Celebration Tourney

Barely a week after the 2024 Children’s Day celebration Olajumoke Adebayo the Lady Captain of Ilorin Golf Club has expressed her appreciation for the success of the event while reassuring a brighter future for the Nigerian children.

In a chat with SOKOnnect on Thursday, the Captain dwelling on the event which had 80 participants affirmed the need to imbibe sport into the lives of the children to enhance their career progression, just as she reiterated sport as a vehicle for social integration. 

She noted that golf is one of such sports that could help guarantee self discipline and wellness in children even as it has no age limit, but a life time sport, hence the event on the Children’s Day Celebration.

“In times as the Children’s Day celebration, golf is a prescribed sport to help the children appreciate the importance of the celebration in their lives; golf is a very friendly game that can help the children grow well because it disciplines the mind aside the physical and other health benefits.

“It therefore means that parents, teachers and most importantly the government must ensure there are sporting facilities at schools to enable the children inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship in their lives, because of its immense benefits. Sport will also help the children develop good friendship federation. That is what the Ilorin Golf Club Ladies Section has presented to the children in this year’s Children’s Day celebration – people from different places mingling together for peace and unity,” said the elated Lady Captain.

In the event of the day which had three categories of age 6-9; 10-12 and 13-16, Lawal Yunisa (male); Opeyemi Anike Oluwadunsin (female) and Adeboye Enoch (junior) all emerged overall winners of their various categories.

The winners and participants at the end of the event went home with fantastic prizes as school bags, “water-bottle” and medals.

Present at the well attended event include the Kwara State Sport Commission Chairman, State Assembly members, representatives of organisations and golf stakeholders who collaborated in the event.

Recalled Children’s Day Celebration golf tournaments has become a regular event across the country.
