Owerri, the Imo state capital, was shut on Wednesday as residents observed the sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB in respect to its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who was arraigned by the Federal Government at the Abuja Federal High Court, reports Punch.
Banks, schools, offices, and markets were shut as our correspondent monitored the development.
Douglas, Wetheral, Ikenegbu, Okigwe Road, Royce Road, Njemanze, Mbari Road, and Oparanozie Road, were deserted.
The ever-busy government house roundabout, Warehouse junction, control post junction and fire junction were deserted.
Cooperate offices and markets were not left out as people stayed indoors.
At the spilbalt area of the state and Orji, youths were seen in groups discussing the Kanu’s trials while others bought roadside food and played football.
The Alaba international market, Naza, and Umuonyeali wood markets were shut down in solidarity with Kanu.
A resident who did not want to be mentioned said, “I am at home because of Nnamdi Kanu. I support him. He is my brother. Let the Federal Government let him go. Insecurity is everywhere and we are not enjoying what is happening.”
