Two suspects were spotted at the same location where the murder was committed.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) have arrested four men for a murder in Yeoville, Johannesburg

The murder happened on Wednesday morning in the vicinity of Raleigh and Kenmere Streets.

JMPD spokesperson, Superintendent Xolani Fihla, said the men aged between 20 and 39 were found after a 48-hour manhunt by JMPD’s Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and the Integrated Intelligence Operations Centre (IIOC) Monitoring and Surveillance team.

Suspects found in the same location

On Thursday, the IIOC monitoring team spotted two suspects at the same location where the murder was committed.

“JMPD officers swiftly responded and located all four suspects, who were identified based on their clothing matching that seen in the CCTV footage.”

Fihla said that during the apprehension, one of the suspects was found to have an unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off. He was unable to provide any documentation for the firearm.

Charges

“All four suspects were detained at Yeoville police station, and they were charged with murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm,” he added.

The investigation is ongoing, and the JMPD will continue to work with the Saps to ensure a thorough prosecution of this case.

Murder cases decrease

Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu said there has been a 9.8% decrease in murder, 3.3% reduction in rape and 3.2% drop in attempted sexual offences.

However, the third-quarter crime statistics, covering 1 October to 31 December 2024, revealed persistent crime challenges in four provinces: Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Eastern Cape, and Western Cape.

“They pose quite a challenge. They dominate criminality in the country. These provinces coincide with where our metros are and the density of the population, and therefore, they are our focus,” he said.
