Joburg Emergency Services (EMS) are in full disaster mode as it embarks on rescue efforts across several areas of the city.

Devastating rain and thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday morning caused severe road infrastructural damage including flooding reported across the city, with the Roodepoort and Soweto areas severely impacted by extreme weather conditions.

Teams have been deployed to assist with rescue efforts, Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said.

“EMS has rescued 3 people that were trapped in a house in Kliptown; an old woman and 2 men. All safe,” Khumalo said.
