Julius Malema has expressed worry following the sudden death of former South African artist, AKA. On February 10, the South African rapper AKA was brutally killed in a drive-by shooting in Florida Road, Durban. On the spot, Durban police verified the rapper’s passing. A Tweet from the EFF stated: “Crime in South Africa is out of control, and the assassination of civilians has become a norm.

“AKA was an indisputable talent and the music industry has lost an innovative artist. May His Soul Rest In Peace.
Amapiano, musician, and entrepreneur Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka was shot and killed on Woodmead Drive in November of last year. No one has been detained for the murder, and the shooting’s cause is still a mystery.

“It sounds like some underground mafia stuff,” said MacG in a segment of his well-known podcast. When prodded to elaborate, MacG declined to discuss the complexity of the murder. He added: “I choose my battles wisely” as he declined the chance to respond.

The South African entertainment industry is currently mourning the passing of rapper AKA, who was also shot to death, in February 2023. In a Tweet, Julius Malema asked, “What’s happening to our artists now?” He was right by asking this question because in all honesty, what is really happening to South African Artists?

According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda of the Provincial SAPS, who addressed on behalf of the department, two armed men are claimed to have crossed the street as the musician and [his buddy] were just leaving a restaurant and opened fire. There have been rumours about what caused AKA’s early demise after his murder in Durban.

Due to the fact that AKA didn’t hide his location in multiple posts, social media users speculated that his killers may have learned of his location from his social media posts.
Murdering artists is not common, but it also is not unheard of. Lucky Dube, a multi-award-winning reggae superstar, was shot and killed in Rosettenville in 2007 while dropping off his kids. Even if the circumstances may be different, speculation about the person responsible for AKA’s murder continues.

@AdvoBarryRoux tweeted: “Dj Sumthing, Vusi maR5 & now AKA. What’s happening lately in the music industry cause nobody can just shoot randomly for no reason unless there’s jealousy or a beef going on amongst musicians behind closed doors. Just yesterday Cassper Nyovest spoke about beefing up his security.

After DJ Sumbody’s passing, Cassper Nyovest recently increased his security, and no one can blame him—being a celebrity, his life does carry a security risk.

Rapper Sandile Mkhize, better known by his stage name DJ Citi Lyts, was also a victim of gun violence last year when he was shot and killed in Soweto. We stand with the family and pray that they are comforted in this difficult time. May AKA’s soul rest in peace.
