The Education MEC said he was pleased with the arrest of the alleged perpetrator and called for a firm stance in court
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has welcomed the incarceration of a suspected serial rapist linked to the recent attack on pupils at Inkosi Bizimali High School in Nhloshane, northern KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
MEC for Education Sipho Hlomuka visited the school on Friday, where he praised the swift response of traditional leaders, community members, and government officials in ensuring safety and justice.
According to Hlomuka, he was moved by the trauma inflicted on the learners and felt compelled to visit the school personally.
“When I learned of the devastating incidents that had engulfed Inkosi Bizimali, I felt saddened and largely disappointed. I could only imagine the pain and horror felt by learners, hence I had to come see you and ensure that you are safe,” said Hlomuka.
He commended the involvement of local traditional leadership in stabilising the situation and ensuring the school’s safety.
“The traditional leadership of this area has proved without doubt that, indeed, education is a societal matter. Your direct involvement in school governance is commendable,” said the MEC.
He specifically acknowledged the support of the Ingono Tribal Authority and named leaders, including the chairperson of the Amabhele Chieftaincy, as well as Inkosi Dlomo of Amakhabela and Inkosi Xulu, Gxabhashe.

Call for justice
The MEC was pleased with the arrest of the alleged perpetrator. He called for a firm stance in court.
“We are pleased with the perpetrator’s incarceration. I will be in court when he makes an appearance in support of our learners and hence calls for justice, saying that he should be denied bail,” he said.
Hlomuka was joined by officials from the Department of Social Development and the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, who pledged ongoing support to the school and its pupils.
Learning continues uninterrupted
Despite the harrowing ordeal, the department has confirmed that academic activities at Inkosi Bizimali High School continue without disruption.
“Teaching and learning continue without hindrance… calm and harmony have been restored,” the statement concluded.
