During the Anthony Hamilton Live in Durban concert at the Durban International Convention Centre in late February, a spontaneous musical moment between Anthony Hamilton and Grammy‑nominated South African artist Sjava captivated fans and set social media alight. The event, which featured Hamilton alongside a lineup of soulful performers, was part of his South African tour and drew a large crowd eager to see the Grammy‑winning American soul singer deliver his timeless hits and connect with local talent.

Hamilton, known globally for his deeply expressive soul and R&B music and recognised for collaborations across multiple continents, has shown a particular affinity for South African music in recent years. He has previously worked with local artists, including featuring on Vuka with Amanda Black, alongside the Soweto Gospel Choir, which brought together R&B and Afro‑pop sensibilities.

In a moment captured in a clip shared by Soulful Night SA, the two artists crossed paths backstage. Hamilton, speaking with a relaxed and open energy, brought up the subject of collaboration. “Let’s do a song too,” he said to Sjava. “I got one with Vusi Nova, I got two with Zonke, one with Amanda Black.” The list referenced by Hamilton reflects his recent and ongoing creative exchanges: he is featured with Vusi Nova on the soulful track Black Sweater, and he has recorded two songs with South African singer Zonke, while Vuka featured him with Amanda Black.

Sjava’s response was direct and affirmative. “Don’t worry I got you,” he replied, indicating his readiness to bring musical ideas to the table. “I think I have something for you.” The exchange, brief yet meaningful, was met with applause from those around them and has since circulated online, sparking interest in what a Hamilton‑Sjava collaboration might sound like.

The Durban concert itself was marked by Hamilton’s celebrated performance and the energetic reception from fans. Hamilton delivered several of his beloved songs, engaging the audience with his heartfelt vocal style, while moments like his interaction with Sjava added an unexpected highlight to the evening.

As of now, no official studio collaboration between Hamilton and Sjava has been released, but the moment at the Durban concert represents a confirmed mutual interest in working together creatively. Fans are awaiting further developments as both artists continue to explore ways to blend their sounds in future projects.
