Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde and his Osun State counterpart, Senator Ademola Adeleke are part of dignitaries that will join the executive members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to celebrate with Nigerian football legend, Dr. Felix Owolabi Akinloye, who will be clocking 70 years on Sunday November 24.

The highlight of the celebration will commence on Friday, November 22 with a star-studded novelty match scheduled for the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan where the likes of Chief Segun Odegbami, Victor Ikpeba, Mutiu Adepoju, Kadiri Ikhana and Augustine Eguavoen among other ex-internationals will be featuring.

The first match scheduled for 3.00 p.m. will see the Ex-Internationals locking horns against Ibadan All-Stars, while the second game at 4 p.m. will see Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) facing Osun United, the team representing Dr. Owolabi’s state of origin.

Governor Makinde and Senator Adeleke’s participation underscores Dr. Owolabi-Akinloye’s profound impact on Nigerian football and his enduring legacy as a football icon.

Other activities include a thanksgiving ceremony on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Bolads Events Centre. The ceremony will provide an avenue for friends, family, and colleagues to pay tribute to the living legend and celebrate his life and achievements.

Owolabi who used to be called ‘OwoBlow’ was a member of the Green Eagles squad Nigeria at the 1978 African Cup of Nations and at the 1980 Summer Olympics. He is also a holder of a doctorate degree in physical education. He played for Kaduna Rocks of Kaduna, Raccah Rovers of Kano, and the IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan.
