The driver of the bread delivery truck was bundled into the back of the vehicle and later released, with the suspects fleeing on foot.

A man has been arrested in Mpumalanga after he and an accomplice hijacked a bread delivery truck.

The man was arrested between Tweefontein and Gemsbokspruit, but police are still searching for his partner who escaped on foot.

The suspects also stole the driver’s personal items, but only after they continued to delivery bread to consumers.

Bread, R500 and cellphone

Police made the arrest just after 5.30am after community members helped track the truck thief.

The driver of the bread delivery vehicle told police that he was making a delivery when the two forced him inside the back of the vehicle.

Locked inside the vehicle with the product, the driver alleges that the two men used the bread to make a few extra sales.

“The suspects drove around and stopped at a few shops selling and delivering bread,” confirmed Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane.

The suspects let the driver out of the vehicle along a main road, where they took from him almost R500 and his cellphone.

The men then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, after which one of them was caught with the help of community members.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the KwaMhlanga Magistrate court on Monday,” stated Ndubane.
