
The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of a 40-year-old woman by her 55-year-old husband, Hamidu Ali, in Babangida, located within the Tarmuwa Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred on the morning of June 28, 2025, has sent shockwaves through the community, with authorities launching an urgent manhunt for the fleeing suspect.
According to the state police spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, the distressing event unfolded around 11 a.m. when residents of Koriyel Village in Babangida alerted local police about the brutal attack. “On June 28, 2025, at about 11 a.m., Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call from inhabitants of Koriyel Village, Babangida, Tarmuwa LGA, indicating that Hamidu Ali, 55, attacked and macheted his wife, 40, to death for unknown reasons and fled,” the statement read.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear as investigations continue. Police officers are actively pursuing leads in hopes of apprehending Ali and bringing him to justice. “Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect,” Abdulkarim added.
This grim incident is one of several recent violent cases the Yobe State Police are currently handling. In a related development, two men were arrested in Fika Local Government Area after allegedly killing a man accused of stealing a phone. The suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime and are undergoing further investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“The suspects have confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing at the State CID for subsequent prosecution,” the police spokesperson said.

He emphasized the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and cooperation with law enforcement agencies to maintain public safety.
“We appeal to the good people of Yobe State to promote peaceful resolution of conflicts and support law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order in their communities,” Commissioner Ado said. “Thank you for your usual cooperation.”
