Wandile “Mbhekeni” Dlamini, a dedicated Maskandi fan, is calling for accountability from the South African Police Service (SAPS) after his assault case against popular musician Mthandeni “SK” Manqele was allegedly dropped without a proper resolution.
Dlamini claims that Manqele assaulted him on December 17, 2024, at KwaSthagimant Tavern in Chesterville, Durban.
A video clip of the incident circulated widely on social media, appearing to show the musician attacking and chasing Dlamini.
Dlamini’s Version of Events
Speaking out about the alleged assault, Dlamini shared his side of the story.
“I am Mthandeni’s fan, and I went there to watch his performance. After his set, my friends and I approached him for pictures. I greeted him and called him by his nickname, Dunudunu. This must have provoked him because he ran towards me and started assaulting me.”

According to Dlamini, he attempted to flee, but Manqele and his crew members pursued him.
“As I was running away, two of his crew members also attacked me. They were punching and kicking me,” he recalled.
The next day, Dlamini sought medical treatment for his injuries. On December 19, he officially opened a case at the Cato Manor police station.
Case Mysteriously Dropped
Dlamini was shocked and frustrated to discover that his case had been closed without any explanation or resolution.
“Towards the end of January, I was told that the case had been dropped because they couldn’t locate Mthandeni. I am aggrieved because Mthandeni is still here in South Africa, and his performances are public. The venues are known. Clearly, the police are protecting him since he is a celebrity,” he said.
Dlamini believes that the justice system has failed him and is now demanding answers.

Manqele Responds but Declines to Comment Further
When approached for comment, Manqele confirmed that he was in Durban performing on the night in question but refused to discuss the incident in detail.
“I can confirm that, on that date, I was in Durban performing. But I cannot comment on this incident as it is sub judice,” he stated.
The term sub judice means that a matter is under judicial consideration and therefore should not be publicly discussed.
SAPS’ Response Raises More Questions
KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, distanced himself from the case and provided no clear explanation for its closure.
“I’m sure the investigating officer told him why it was closed. Other than that, I cannot disclose anything,” Netshiunda said.
His vague response has left Dlamini feeling even more frustrated and suspicious.
Public Outrage and Calls for Accountability
The handling of this case has sparked outrage among Maskandi fans and social justice advocates. Many believe that the police are protecting a high-profile artist at the expense of an ordinary sokonnect seeking justice.
Dlamini insists that he is not backing down and will continue to push for accountability.
“I won’t let this go. If the police won’t do their job, I will escalate this matter to higher authorities,” he vowed.
