‘The coach (Nasreddine Nabi) was in contact with me in December,’ said the Congolese striker.

Pyramids FC striker Fiston Mayele has admitted he spoke to Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi in December about a possible move to Amakhosi.

Pyramids FC striker Mayele was speaking to journalists in South Africa on Thursday ahead of the Egyptian side’s Caf Champions League first leg clash with Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Stadium on Saturday afernoon.

“The coach (Nasreddine Nabi) was in contact with me in December, but it’s not the right moment to talk about it,” said Mayele.

“I’m focussing on the final. The rest we will see after the season.”

Chiefs are expected to enter the transfer market for a new striker at the end of the current campaign. Their attackers have been far from prolific in the 2024/25 season.

Mayele, meanwhile, understandably turned his attention to the final against Masandawana. The Congolese striker scored twice against Orlando Pirates in the semifinal second leg to ultimately send his team through to the final.

“I am happy to be here and try to help the team win,” added Mayele.

“I was happy to score during the last match against Orlando Pirates … to play in the final, the first final for the club in the CAF Champions League”.

“I can’t say I will score but … I want to help the team play well and that’s why I am here”.

The 30 year-old Mayele has been particularly effective in the Caf Champions League this season, where he has eight goals in 11 appearances.
